I have been making avocado rotis for a while now. Avocado has been a regular buy for the last 10-12 years or so ever since I found the health benefits it has. Loaded with Potassium, heart healthy mono -saturated fatty acids and it can lower cholesterol and triglycerides.
Before this I used avocados to make you guessed it right, Guacamole. Anytime we had company over or parties it was always on the menu. I started making smoothies out of it with greens, also make avocado chocolate mousse and the list goes on.
Couple of years back when my Hubby’s cousin was visiting us, his wife who is a cooking enthusiast mentioned about avocado parathas. The idea appealed to me instantly and I tried making it. The parathas turned out delicious and super soft, Niki and hubby loved it.
One day I tried making rotis out of the same dough and loved the taste more than the parathas. The smoky flavor from the open flame smeared with ghee on top the rotis very absolutely out of this world. There is an added advantage with making rotis, it takes less time than making parathas.

Servings
12-14 rotis
Prep Time
10 minutes plus rest time for the dough 20-30 minutes
Cook Time
15-20 minutes
Total Time
45-50 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 3 cups wheat flour
- 2-3 avocados
- 1 green chili finely chopped
- 4 tbsp chopped cilantro
- ½ tsp turmeric
- ½ tsp red chili powder
- 2 tsp grated ginger
- Salt to taste
- Ghee to serve
PREPARATION
uStep 1
Cut avocado in half and grate. Add with the rest of the ingredients and make a soft dough. Rest for about 30 minutes.
Step 2
To make rotis make 12-14 equal portions out of the dough. Roll as you would for a roti or paratha.
Step 3
Heat a griddle or tava and cook for about a minute on each side. Place the roti on open flame and cook until brown spots appear on the surface.
Step 4
Spread ghee on top and serve with dal or vegetable or even plain raita and pickle.
Notes: You can serve the rotis without ghee if you are watching your diet, it will still taste very delicious and soft.

The famous proverb "you are what you eat” as quoted by the French author Anthelme Brillat-Savarin is very true. Food nourishes you from the inside out. Good health is of utmost importance to me. Vegetarianism and Veganism are gaining immense popularity these days. Natural, organic, healthy and homemade is my mantra.
