Cilantro Mint Chutney
Indian food can’t be imagined without chutney. There are more varieties of chutney than one can comprehend. Chutneys are made with vegetables, herbs, seeds, nuts, fruits, greens to name a few.
The most essential chutney for chaats is the cilantro mint chutney. Bright green color, spicy and tart at the same time enhances the taste of any snack like samosa, dhokla, sandwiches etc.
I use a tsp of oil while blending the chutney to keep the green color intact. You can skip it if you are consuming the contents on the same day.
Yields about 1 cup
- 2 bunches of cilantro
- 1 bunch mint
- 2-3 green chilies
- Salt to taste
- 1 tsp oil
- Juice of ½ -¾ lemon
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
Clean the herbs. Place all the ingredients in a blender. Blend until everything is pureed well.
Pour into a glass container and store in the refrigerator. Stores well for 3-5 days.
The famous proverb "you are what you eat” as quoted by the French author Anthelme Brillat-Savarin is very true. Food nourishes you from the inside out. Good health is of utmost importance to me. Vegetarianism and Veganism are gaining immense popularity these days. Natural, organic, healthy and homemade is my mantra.
